ASTANA, October 12. /TASS/. The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will discuss issues of regional and international agenda during its Wednesday meeting in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana.
Moreover, several documents approved during the meeting will be brought for consideration before the CIS Heads of State Council, meeting on October 14, and the CIS Heads of Government Council, meeting on October 28, 2022.
The meeting will be chaired by Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi. Earlier, Kazakh Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Aybek Smadiyarov said that participants of the event would discuss issues of regional and international agenda and enhanced partnership among CIS foreign ministers.
Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, told reporters on October 6 that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov would attend a regular meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council in the capital of Kazakhstan on October 12.
In her words, the foreign ministers of the CIS countries will exchange opinions on topical international and regional issues, as well as prospects for developing cooperation within the CIS, and approve a plan of multi-level consultations between the CIS foreign ministries for 2023.
Zakharova also said Lavrov was expected to inform his counterparts about the progress in the Russian special military operation in Ukraine and the results of the referendums in the DPR, LPR, and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, as well as on their accession to the Russian Federation. The parties will pay special attention to security issues in the CIS and along its external borders, she added.
The ministers are also expected to make decisions on issues concerning the cultural agenda, law enforcement and human rights, in particular, the calendar of events marking the Year of the Russian Language as a Language of Interethnic Communication in the CIS in 2023, and the plan of priority events in cultural and educational cooperation for 2023-2024.
