American Tater released under travel ban in a case of violence against police officer

The decision was made due to the accused committing a crime of moderate severity, and the maximum duration (six months) of the detention measure has expired

MOSCOW, March 25. /TASS/. An investigator has released US citizen Joseph Tater from a Moscow detention center, where he had been held for more than six months on charges of assaulting a Moscow police officer following an incident at the Radisson hotel. According to case materials available to TASS, the American has been placed under a travel ban.

"The measure of restraint in the form of detention for the accused Joseph Tater is changed to a measure of restraint in the form of a travel ban and proper behavior," reads the decision by the investigative body.

It further clarified that the decision was made due to the accused committing a crime of moderate severity, and the maximum duration (six months) of the detention measure has expired. At the same time, the prosecution supported the decision to mitigate the measure for Tater, who, according to the documents, is registered at one of the capital’s hotels.

On August 12 of last year, American citizen Joseph Tater arrived at the Radisson Hotel in Moscow, where he violated public order by swearing, behaving aggressively, and engaging in a verbal altercation with staff. They refused to check him in without information about his previous place of residence in Moscow. Although Tater provided the information later, he was denied check-in due to an unsatisfactory reference from his prior residence.

Tater was then detained by police officers at the hotel and taken to the police station, where he refused to present identification documents and harshly grabbed the arm of a female officer.
