Main goal of terrorist attacks in Transnistria was provoking panic - Foreign Minister

Speaking about the shooting incident near military warehouses near the village of Cobasna, where about 20,000 tonnes of ammunition are stored, Ignatiev noted that the security of the warehouses was set to the maximum vigilance mode

CHISINAU, May 1. /TASS/. The main purpose of the terrorist attacks carried out in Transnistria was to provoke panic among the local population, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the unrecognized Transnistria Vitaly Ignatiev told TASS.

"The main purpose of these attacks, most likely, was to provoke panic among the citizens of Transnistria. They were probably organized by forces interested in destabilizing the situation on the banks of the Dniester," he said.

Speaking about the shooting incident near military warehouses near the village of Cobasna, where about 20,000 tonnes of ammunition are stored, Ignatiev noted that the security of the warehouses was set to the maximum vigilance mode.

"The damage in case of detonation of the ammunition stored there can be enormous for everyone - material, economic, and environmental. It is obvious that not only Transnistria, but also the territories of Moldova and Ukraine will suffer. Transnistria is doing everything in its power to avoid aggravation and tensions," Ignatiev said.

Militaristic statements against Tiraspol

Militaristic statements directed at Transnistria do not contribute to strengthening its security in it, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the unrecognized Transnistria Vitaly Ignatiev told.

"I am sure that any militaristic statements do not help anyone and are unlikely to contribute to strengthening stability both in Transnistria and neighboring countries," Ignatiev said, commenting on a recent statement by Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine, that the Ukrainian army could capture Transnistria if Chisinau makes such request.

"The situation remains tense, especially given the closure of the border on the Ukrainian side. We are taking measures to deescalate the situation and welcome the statements of various foreign leaders, as well as the current OSCE Chairmanship, which called for restraint in actions and statements so as not to create unnecessary tension," Ignatiev added.
