HAIKOU /China/, 25 August. /TASS/. The resort city of Sanya on Hainan Island has gained great popularity among Russians practicing tai chi, a form of Chinese health exercises, Sanya Daily reported.
According to the newspaper, every winter hundreds of Russian citizens come to Sanya to learn basic or advanced skills in this internal martial art, the purpose of which is to learn how to maximize the use of the body's resources both when facing an opponent and in everyday life. Among them are tourists, students, and people from various professions, including students of Master Shen Zhi, a 60-year-old from Anhui Province (Eastern China).
According to the master, he works in Hainan for about two months a year and teaches abroad for the rest of the year. Shen Zhi has also become familiar with the characteristics of other regions of China with favorable natural conditions. In particular, he trained in the city of Huangshan (Anhui) and the city of Kunming (the administrative center of southwestern Yunnan Province). However, the climate of Sanya, where you can train by the sea, turned out to be the most suitable.
According to Dmitry, one of the master's disciples, oriental martial arts, including tai chi, have always fascinated him. "I will follow in my teacher's footsteps, personally promote Chinese martial arts and pass on Shen Zhi's experience," he said.
Besides Russians, Shen Zhi has many students from other countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States. All of them, regardless of their nationality, are trained in techniques that cultivate human endurance, resilience and flexibility.
Strengthening the tai chi tradition in Sanya
Shen Zhi is a student of China's renowned master Chen Xiaowang, a nine-time international and national champion. After decades of hard work, he has managed to create his own style, which is officially listed in martial arts competitions.
Because Shen Zhi's tai chi is relatively easy to learn and convenient to practice, it has attracted tens of thousands of followers from Russia, as well as Ukraine, Finland, Japan and many other countries. The mentor plans to set up an international sports camp in Sanya, which will help enthusiasts of this martial art from all over the world to exchange experiences.
