FSB foils attempted terrorist attack on military conscription office in Voronezh

Components for making an IED were seized from the suspect’s home

MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has foiled an attempted terrorist attack on a military conscription office in the southwestern Russian city of Voronezh, the law enforcement agency said in a statement.

"The Russian Federal Security Service has prevented a terrorist attack that was planned to be carried out in Voronezh," the statement reads. "[The FSB] detained a Russian national, born in 1986, who was recruited by militants from a Ukrainian terrorist organization and intended to carry out their instructions to detonate an improvised explosive device (IED) at the city’s military conscription office. Subsequently, he planned to relocate to Ukraine to take part in military activities against the Russian Armed Forces," the FSB added.

Components for making an IED were seized from the suspect’s home, where online communications with his Ukrainian handlers were also found, the FSB added.

The FSB’s investigative branch in the Voronezh Region has launched a probe into the preparations made for the planned terrorist attack and the illegal production and storage of explosive devices. The suspect has been taken into custody.
