Shaun Pinner sentenced to death in DPR recognized as terrorist in UK

Shaun Pinner was on a wanted list in the UK for taking part in combat actions in Iraq and Syria

DONETSK, June 9. /TASS/. British national Shaun Pinner, who took part in hostilities on the side of Ukraine and was sentenced to death in the Donetsk People’s Republic, has been recognized as terrorist in the United Kingdom, according to the text of the court’s verdict.

"Shaun Pinner was on the wanted list in the UK for taking part in combat actions in Iraq and Syria, and was recognized as terrorist in the UK. In connection with this, Shaun Pinner went to Ukraine to take part in the hostilities," the text of the verdict reads.

Pinner, 48, earlier served within the British Army as a member of the Royal Anglian Regiment. In 2018, Pinner moved to Ukraine where he lived in the city of Mariupol with his Ukrainian wife. At first, Pinner worked as an instructor of the Azov battalion. He is unaware whether any of the Azov battalion’s members took part in the hostilities and used violence against civilians or committed any other crimes, according to the verdict, which cites Pinner’s testimony. Later, the Briton joined Ukraine’s marines.

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic on Thursday sentenced to death UK nationals Shaun Pinner and Aiden Aslin, as well as Moroccan Brahim Saadoun on charges of taking part in hostilities as mercenaries enlisted by Ukrainian armed units. The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic previously reported that testimony obtained from Pinner, Aslin and Brahim Saadoun proved their involvement in committing crimes such as forcible seizure of power and mercenarism.
