Russia remains among EU’s main liquefied natural gas suppliers in October

MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. Russia remained among the European Union’s main liquefied natural gas (LNG) suppliers in October, delivering LNG worth 701.5 million euro in the reported period according to the Eurostat statistical agency and TASS calculations.

LNG imports from Russia in value terms were the highest since November 2023.

According to the statistics, Russia remained among the European Union’s key gas suppliers in terms of value, accounting for 21.2%, ahead of the United States (19%) and second only to Algeria (21.6%).

EU countries paid 701.5 million euro for Russian LNG in September, up by 28% month-on-month and by 26% year-on-year. This is the highest amount since November 2023, when 719 million euro were spent on payment for supplies of Russian LNG. The main buyers were France (366 million euro), Spain (141.5 million euro) and the Netherlands (93.6 million euro).

EU in September also imported Russian pipeline gas worth 547.8 mln euro in October, the highest level since June 2024. Among leading purchasers were Hungary (231 million euro), Greece (150 million euro) and Slovakia (124 million euro).

In all, the European Union paid 1.3 billion bln euro for Russian gas in October, up 6% month-on-month and up 21% year-on-year. The share of gas supplies from Russia in total volume of Europe’s gas imports from countries outside the Union stood at 21.2%, compared to 23.76% in September.

In January-October 2024, the European Unon paid over six billion euro for Russian pipeline gas and 5.7 billion euro for Russian LNG.
