MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. The West uses the human rights issue as a tool to interfere in the internal affairs of a number of countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin stated at a conference in the Russian Civic Chamber dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
"The West uses the subject of human rights as a tool and pretext for interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, and pseudo-liberal values are imposed on the peoples of the world as universal," the diplomat said.
According to Vershinin, the West is trying to "replace globally recognized international legal norms with its own fabricated rules, in order to evade international law and the UN Charter."
"The aggressive promotion of ideas and attitudes destructive to the international community is carried out against the background of serious violations of human rights in the Western countries," Vershinin said. "Therefore, it is important to remember that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as the UN Charter, remains relevant."
In this context, the Russian deputy foreign minister urged to do everything possible to provide a fair and consistent interpretation of these fundamental documents.
