Top Russian security official meets with Omani minister of royal office

It is emphasized that the parties discussed relations between Russia and Oman and ways to boost ties

DUBAI, September 25. /TASS/. Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev, who is on a working visit to the Sultanate of Oman, held a meeting with the country’s Minister of the Royal Office Sultan al-Numani, the Oman News Agency reported.

According to the media outlet, the parties discussed relations between Russia and Oman and ways to boost ties. In addition, Patrushev and al-Numani touched upon a number of issues of mutual interest.

Earlier, the Russian Security Council said that Patrushev would visit Oman for security consultations that would also involve officials from the two countries’ ministries and state agencies.

In March 2023, President Vladimir Putin of Russia and Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman held a phone call, the first contact between the two countries’ leaders since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1985. The conversation was initiated by Oman. According to the Kremlin press service, the leaders thoroughly reviewed the current state of and the prospects for Russia-Oman cooperation, and exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East. In July 2023, Moscow hosted talks between the Russian and Omani foreign ministers, where top Russian diplomat Sergey Lavrov particularly mentioned that the sultan of Oman had been invited to visit Russia.
