MOSCOW, October 12. /TASS/. Moscow and Cairo confirmed their mutual interest to strengthen cooperation in the anti-terrorism fight, which includes interaction based on multilateral platforms, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement comes in the wake of bilateral talks between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolov and Egyptian Deputy Foreign Minister Hamdi Loza. They both presided over a meeting of the Russian and Egyptian counterterrorism working group in Moscow.
"The meeting participants reviewed in depth the problematic issues of present-day threats posed by international terrorism both on the global and regional scale," the statement reads.
"Both parties confirmed their intention to strengthen their cooperation in this field within current multilateral formats, first of all within the framework of the UN and bilateral format as well," the statement continued.
"The sides reiterated the significance of consolidating mutual efforts in the fight against international terrorists and militants as well as shutting down all channels of financing for the terrorists," the statement added.
The Russian Foreign Ministry added in its statement that the next meeting of the Russian and Egyptian counterterrorism working groups would be hosted by Cairo in 2023.
