Putin, Qatar’s Emir to focus on Middle East, Ukraine at talks in Astana — Kremlin aide

MOSCOW, October 12. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani will touch upon the Middle East, Ukraine and energy cooperation at their meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan, Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov told reporters on Wednesday.

The aide to the Russian president pointed out that cooperation between Moscow and Doha is positive and constructive, while the scheduled meeting will be the first since the pandemic, so it is of paramount importance.

"As for international issues, among them are regional problems and the situation in the Middle East. Undoubtedly, the Emir will show an interest in our assessments concerning Ukraine, they will also talk about it," Ushakov said, mentioning the topics of the upcoming meeting.

"Apart from politics, I would single out, in regard to the trade and economic area, cooperation in the energy market and Russian-Qatari cooperation within the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. It will also be discussed by our leaders," he added.

According to Ushakov, Putin and al-Thani will focus on future cooperation between the two countries not only in the political area, but also in the trade, economic and investment fields.

Ushakov pointed out that Moscow and Doha have a functioning joint working group on practical issues of preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2022, hosted by Qatar.

"We are ready to share practical experience and relevant information," he added.
