Hostile attitude to Russia prevails in Italian media, Russian envoy says

ROME, June 6. /TASS/. The Russian ambassador to Italy has provided clarifications to the Italian Foreign Ministry where he was summoned over Rome’s initiatives to end the conflict in Ukraine, the Russian embassy said in a statement.

"On June 6, 2022, the Italian Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador to Italy Sergey Razov to make a presentation over the Russian Foreign Ministry’s allegedly ‘intolerable and offensive’ remarks about Italy’s authorities and media outlets. The envoy, in turn, pointed to a number of unacceptable statements about Russia and its leadership made by senior Italian officials. The envoy emphasized that the attitude that prevailed in the Italian media could be viewed as hostile," the statement reads.

The Russian ambassador called for restraint and balance, traditional for Italy’s foreign policy, which are necessary for achieving the long-term goal of maintaining positive relations and cooperation between the people of Russia and Italy. "He also provided clarifications with regard to Italy’s initiatives to end the conflict and Ukraine and calls for unlocking grain exports from Ukrainian ports," the embassy added.
