Putin thanks Belarusian president for restoring power to Chernobyl NPP

Belarus established a power line between the city of Mozyr and the Chernobyl NPP

MOSCOW, March 11. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has thanked his Belarusian counterpart for restoring power supply to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant at a meeting on Friday.

According to earlier reports, Ukrainian nationalists staged a provocation targeting the nuclear power plant’s electric grid facilities. Russia and Belarus later considered ways to ensure continuous power supply to the Chernobyl NPP with the Belarusian Energy Ministry confirming voltage supply to a power line between the city of Mozyr and the Chernobyl NPP.

Lukashenko mentioned these developments at the meeting. "We can see now what is happening in Chernobyl. You asked me to ensure power supply," he noted. "But they don’t need it, you know. No matter what is happening there, they are pushing back, so we restored power to the Chernobyl plant by force," the Belarusian president added.

Putin said: "I am aware of it, thank you".
