Google notified about attempts to meddle in Russian elections via Navalny app — lawmaker

Russian lawmaker Andrei Klimov noted that "the app particularly deliberately and illegally spreads election campaign materials in the interests of some candidates vying for positions in elective agencies or against the interests of such"

MOSCOW, September 16. /TASS/. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has sent statutory notices to Google and Apple about taking down the Navalny app which, is used to "collect data to interfere in the Russian elections," Russian lawmaker Andrei Klimov told reporters on Thursday.

"In both documents, [the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office] says that this software (Navalny app — TASS) collects personal data of Russian citizens and other information used to interfere in the Russian elections. The app particularly deliberately and illegally spreads election campaign materials in the interests of some candidates vying for positions in elective agencies or against the interests of such," he said.

He added that Google and Appel are aware of these notices, which contain demands to remove the app.
