NEW YORK, December 5. /TASS/. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) declared a tsunami threat on the California coast after the magnitude 7 earthquake, registered in this state earlier.

The warning covers the northern part of California, including San Francisco, and a portion of the neighboring state of Oregon.

Almost 5 million people in California and Oregon may be within the tsunami threat area, CNN reported, adding that the waves may hit the coast within 1 to 2 hours.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 63 km away west of Petrolia (California); the starting point was 0.6 km deep.

No victims or damage has been reported.
