NEW YORK, April 3. /TASS/. Senior US Army officers aren’t happy about the firing of Army Chief of Staff General Randy George by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, The New York Times (NYT) reported.
According to the newspaper, military officials believe Hegseth’s dismissal of the Army chief of staff was personal. The decision has irritated senior officers, who see the move as yet another blow to the service.
General George is expected to be replaced by General Christopher LaNeve, who previously served as Hegseth’s senior military assistant in the Pentagon.
Since taking office in January 2025, Hegseth has fired several generals, including former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Charles Brown. In April 2025, former Pentagon Spokesman John Ullyot wrote in an article published by Politico that the department was in "total chaos," caused in part by the dismissals.
