BERLIN, April 4. /TASS/. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has called for abolishing the unanimity principle in the European Union’s (EU) decision-making process.
"I support a system of qualified majority voting in the EU," Wadephul said in an interview with the Funke media group. "All the experience we have gained in recent weeks in connection with aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia points to this," he said.
Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, Hungary has regularly blocked financial assistance to Kiev and sanctions against Russia. At present, the Hungarian government is blocking the payment of an already approved EU loan to Ukraine worth €90 billion.
