Customs cannot distinguish between Russian, other diamonds — De Beers CEO

On December 18, the European Union greenlighted the 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions

LONDON, December 20. /TASS/. Russian diamonds are virtually indistinguishable from any other ones, CEO of diamond giant De Beers said in an interview with The Financial Times.

"With the best will in the world, the average customs agent will not be able to look at one diamond and another diamond and go, 'That’s the Russian one,'" Al Cook said, commenting on the newest package of EU sanctions.

On December 18, the European Union greenlighted the 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions. It stipulates banning diamond imports from Russia, covering both diamonds mined in Russia and ones transited through Russia.
