TYUMEN, September 15. /TASS/. The Federal Agency for Mineral Resources estimates the country’s current viable crude reserves at 21 years, Acting Head of the agency Yevgeny Petrov told TASS on the sidelines of the Tyumen Oil and Gas Forum.
"Viable reserves [of oil will suffice] for 20-21 years," he said, adding that this period would increase as technologies for tight oil reserves develop.
Western Siberia remains the most promising Russian region for exploration of oil and gas reserves, Petrov noted. "The work potential here is for many years," he said.
Meanwhile, the development of hydrocarbons deposits in Eastern Siberia is unprofitable so far due to the lack of necessary infrastructure, Acting Head of the agency said.
