Chinese army units arrive in Russia for Vostok 2022 strategic drills

The Vostok 2022 strategic command and staff drills will run from August 30 to September 5

BEIJING, August 25. /TASS/. Units of the People’s Liberation Army of China have arrived in Russia to participate in the upcoming Vostok 2022 strategic command and staff drills, Chinese Defense Ministry Spokesman Senior Colonel Tan Kefei told a press briefing on Thursday.

"The Chinese side’s units participating in the land and air stages of the drills have already arrived in the deployment areas and efforts are currently underway for amassing forces, setting up field camps and reconnoitering the terrain. In addition, flight preparations are underway," the spokesman said.

As the senior colonel specified, the Chinese Navy’s surface forces have already joined Russian naval ships and held Signal Corps drills.

The Vostok 2022 strategic command and staff drills will run from August 30 to September 5 under the command of Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov at 13 training grounds of Russia’s Eastern Military District.

As Russia’s Defense Ministry specified, the drills will focus on practicing the use of forces (troops) in ensuring military security in the Eastern region. Aside from China and Russia, the armed forces of Belarus, India, Tajikistan and Mongolia will participate in the Vostok 2022 strategic command and staff drills.
