No critical barriers identified in digital ruble testing, pilot continues — Central Bank

According to the regulator, the transition to mass adoption is inevitable, though the exact timing will be determined later

MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. The testing of the digital ruble has not revealed any critical technological or regulatory barriers and the pilot program is continuing and expanding, Director of the National Payment System Department at the Bank of Russia Alla Bakina said.

"It is crucial to continue this pilot program. As of today, we have not identified any critical barriers - either technological or legislative - but it remains essential to continuously refine the customer journey to ensure convenience. We must work with banks to establish effective interaction models and scenarios that make these operations beneficial and attractive for the financial sector," she said, emphasizing that the transition to mass adoption is inevitable, though the exact timing will be determined later.

Earlier in February, the Bank of Russia postponed the large-scale introduction of the digital ruble from the summer of 2025 to a later date, which will be announced in due course. Previously, mass adoption was expected to commence after July 1, 2025.
