US State Secretary Rubio set to visit Germany, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE this month

Marco Rubio will participate in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Munich

WASHINGTON, February 13. /TASS/. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to travel to Germany, Israel, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on February 13-18 to discuss the release of hostages kept by the radical Hamas movement, ceasefire agreements in the Gaza Strip and counter-actions against Iran, the US Department of State’s Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a statement.

"Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Munich on February 13 to participate in the Munich Security Conference, where he will discuss a range of US priorities with international partners," she stated.

"While in Munich, Secretary Rubio will also participate in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. He will then travel to Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates from February 15-18," the spokesperson continued.

"Secretary Rubio’s engagements with senior officials will promote US interests in advancing regional cooperation, stability, and peace," Bruce noted.

"The trip will center on freeing American and all other hostages from Hamas captivity, advancing to Phase II of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, and countering the destabilizing activities of the Iranian regime and its proxies," the US official added.

On February 4, US President Donald Trump stated at a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following their talks at the White House, that the United States was considering long-term ownership of the Gaza Strip in order to develop it for the sake of peace in the Middle East. He also proposed relocating Palestinians from the enclave to other countries in the region, which he said could pay for it.

Arab countries, Iran and some Western nations have opposed Trump's proposals. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow took note of the US president's idea, but also acknowledged that Egypt and Jordan have refused to cooperate with the plan.
