NEW YORK, December 6. /TASS/. Russia displays readiness for a dialogue with the West and prevention of a nuclear war despite the United States’ actions, says Daniel Kovalik, American lawyer and professor at the University of Pittsburgh, who visited Donbass repeatedly, told TASS.
"I think that this interview with Sergey Lavrov shows that Russia is in fact, as we say in the United States, the adult in the room, that Russia is ready to engage with the West. It is ready to cooperate with the West and it wants to avert a nuclear war and, incredibly, it seems like the West feels the opposite way: they don't want to engage with Russia, they don't want to deal with Russia's legitimate security concerns, and, frankly, they don't seem interested in in preventing nuclear war," Kovalik noted. "In fact, they seem interested in provoking it."
The lawyer also underscored that the Biden Administration’s recent decision to approve shipment of long-range missiles to Ukraine and the discussion of shipping nuclear weapons may lead to an escalation of the conflict.
"This move by Biden […] is not only Russia's red line, it would be the US's red line if the situation were reversed," he added. "The US has to understand that this could naturally lead to a major conflagration."
He expressed his hope that there are rational leaders in the US government and other Western states, who are ready to accept the "olive branch," offered by Russia in order to avoid tragic consequences.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson has been published late on December 5 and it has already accumulated over 2 million views in the X social platform. The foreign minister’s conversation with Carlson lasted to almost an hour and a half. The foreign minister answered questions about a possible resolution of the Ukrainian crisis, the use of the Oreshnik ballistic missile and the possibilities for cooperation with the West. Last time, Carlson visited Moscow in February to have an interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
