Ukraine dismisses ‘media noise’ about alleged Trump peace plan — official

Commenting on reports that Trump has allegedly spoken over the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Sergey Leshchenko noted that such reports "are backed by nothing"

MOSCOW, November 11. /TASS/. Ukraine will not speculate on US media reports about a conflict settlement plan, since US President-elect Donald Trump has not yet made his official position on the matter public, Sergey Leshchenko, an adviser of Zelensky’s office, said.

"There is no point in discussing this now. We see press leaks citing people close to the president-elect. They give interviews and then refute them. It’s just media noise. Now is the time for those trying to get into the new administration to make a name for themselves," he said.

Commenting on The Washington Post’s reports that Trump has allegedly spoken over the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Leshchenko noted that such reports "are backed by nothing." "The fact is that the negotiating position from which the American president is going to put an end to the conflict has not yet been announced," he added.

However, he acknowledged that Trump will have a much different take on the Ukraine situation than the current administration, so Kiev will try to get all it can out of Biden and company before Trump’s inauguration. "It’s clear that Trump will begin implementing his vision after the inauguration. That is why it is paramount for Ukraine to receive what has been promised and what is critical for us while this administration is still in power. We can only guess what Biden will tell Trump, and it is difficult to say whether the latter will accept it," Leshchenko said.

Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov has refuted foreign media reports about an alleged phone call between Putin and Trump after his election, saying that there was no such a call.
