DUBAI, December 3. /TASS/. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that he will soon meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ways to resolve the Syria crisis.
"I will hold a meeting with the Russian president on the situation in Syria in the near future," the Iranian presidential press service quotes Pezeshkian as saying. He added that Tehran and Moscow would do their utmost to facilitate efforts to stabilize the situation in Syria.
Pezeshkian said in a phone call with Putin on December 2 that the current rise in terrorist activities in Syria was part of a dangerous plan developed by Israel and the US in order to create instability in the Middle East. The Iranian president highly appreciated Russia’s role in maintaining peace in the region and Syria’s territorial integrity.
On the morning of November 27, units of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group (outlawed in Russia) carried out a large-scale attack in northern Syria. According to the Syrian military command, the terrorists tried to attack villages and towns defended by government forces, as well as military facilities and the Syrian army’s positions. Syrian troops launched an operation to repel the attack. On November 30, the army command said that strikes had been carried out on the positions of militants penetrating many neighborhoods in the city of Aleppo. The Syrian Defense Ministry stated that the army had to regroup in order to protect the lives of civilians and military personnel and prepare for a counterattack.
