Austria still blocking EU’s 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions — online newspaper

According to the EUobserver portal, Vienna, in exchange for supporting sanctions, continues to demand that Kiev exclude the Raiffeisen banking group from the Ukrainian list of "sponsors of war"

BRUSSELS, December 16. /TASS/. Austria has blocked the EU’s 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions on the eve of the EU summit and has not yet withdrawn its objections, the Brussels-based online newspaper EUobserver reported.

"They imposed a study reserve, which could be lifted on Monday or early next week," the newspaper said citing an EU source. It confirmed the information that Austria demands that Kiev delists Austria’s lender Raiffeisen Bank from the Ukrainian list of ‘sponsors of war’. Earlier, in a similar move Hungary secured that its OTP Bank had been removed from this list.

In the EU summit’s conclusions of December 14, the EU leaders said that ‘the European Council welcomes the adoption of the 12th package of sanctions," which had not been officially approved.
