BERLIN, November 25. /TASS/. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who was nominated for chancellor again on Monday in the coming early election, stated that he stands by his government’s decision to support Ukraine and promised to continue this policy, but reiterated that he is against supplying Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles.

"To those who think it is wrong to provide this support: no, it was and it remains the right decision. Under my leadership, the government has done everything it can to prevent any escalation of the situation in the war between Russia and NATO. And this is still the core objective now <...>. For me, it has always been important and remains important to ensure that no wrong decisions are made, such as, like I previously said, the supply of cruise missiles, authorizing the heavy weapons we delivered to Ukraine to strike deep into Russia," he said at a press conference in Berlin.

Scholz listed supporting Ukraine at the top of his priorities should the SPD win and form a government. He said creating jobs would be his second priority, followed by fighting inflation and reforming fiscal policy.

On Monday, the leadership of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) chose Scholz as its chancellor nominee. The early election is expected to be held in February 2025. However, the chances of the Social Democrats to win, and thus of Scholz's new term as chancellor, are considered low due to the poor ratings of the party and the chancellor himself.
