SUKHUM, December 13. /TASS/. Syrian President Bashar Assad received Abkhaz Foreign Minister Inal Ardzinba in Damascus, and now, the Syrian head of state has accepted an invitation to visit Abkhazia next year, the republic's Foreign Ministry reported.
"The Abkhaz Foreign Minister was received in Damascus by Syrian Arab Republic President Bashar Assad. Inal Ardzinba conveyed the warmest wishes on behalf of the President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania. The President of Syria accepted an invitation to visit Abkhazia next year," the statement reads.
The parties expressed support for the special military operation conducted by Russia in Ukraine, condemning the actions and attempts of the US to unleash conflicts in the Middle East, South Caucasus, as well as other regions of the world. "The sides highlighted Russia's efforts to form a fairer system of international relations and strengthen multipolarity trends in the global economy and politics. President Bashar Assad said that he will make every effort to expand the recognition of the state sovereignty of the Republic of Abkhazia by the countries of the Arab world," the ministry reported.
Syria recognized the independence of Abkhazia in 2018 and established diplomatic relations with the country.
