Lula da Silva wins presidential election in Brazil after 99.3% of votes counted

He beat the country's incumbent leader Jair Bolsonaro by almost 2 million votes

RIO DE JANEIRO, October 31. /TASS/. Brazilian former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva won in the second round of the country’s presidential election beating by almost two million votes incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro, according to results of the 99.3% of the processed votes.

According to data provided by Brazil's Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) some 60 million people (50.37%) cast their votes in favor of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, while incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro received the support of 57.9 million (49.13%) of the voters.

The voters’ turnout was reported to reach some 80% of the electorate with some 32 million of registered voters failing to turn up at polling stations.

Early this month in the opening round of the presidential election in Brazil, Lula da Silva, the leader of the Workers’ Party, secured 47.95% of the vote. He was backed by more than 55 million people. Bolsonaro managed to gain 43.62% of the vote, winning the support of more than 50 million people.
