Death sentence for three foreign mercenaries passed under DPR laws — Lavrov

The crimes in question were committed on the territory of the DPR, the Russian Foreign Minister recalled

YEREVAN, June 10. /TASS/. The death sentence was passed against Britons Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner and Moroccan Brahim Saadoun based on the laws of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told journalists on Friday.

"At the moment, all processes underway are based on the laws of the Donetsk People’s Republic, since the crimes in question were committed on the territory of the DPR," the top diplomat said. "Everything else is a matter of speculation. I wouldn’t intervene in the work of the DPR’s judicial system," Lavrov added.

On Thursday, a court in the DPR sentenced to capital punishment two British nationals, Shaun Pinner (48) and Aiden Aslin (28), as well as Moroccan Brahim Saadoun, for participating in the combat actions in Ukraine as mercenaries.

The republic’s Prosecutor General’s Office earlier said that testimony obtained from Pinner, Aslin and Saadoun proved their involvement in crimes such as forcible seizure of power and mercenary activities.

The convicts have the right to pardon, and they can appeal against the court decision within a month, the judge said.
