Persian Gulf countries see need in Syria’s comeback to Arab League — Lavrov

The Russian Foreign Minister noted that the situation in Syria was discussed at meetings during his visit to Saudi Arabia

RIYADH, June 1. /TASS/. Russia is convinced that Syria must return to the Arab League and sees a similar attitude among Persian Gulf countries, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a news conference on Wednesday following his visit to Saudi Arabia.

The situation in Syria, which is part of the Arab world, was discussed at meetings during the visit, Lavrov said.

"We reaffirmed our conviction that Syria must return to the Arab League, and we see understanding among our [Persian] Gulf partners," Lavrov said.

Lavrov also pointed to the need to fulfill UN Security Council Resolution 2254 by addressing humanitarian issues facing Syria and restoring economic infrastructure, "at least basic facilities for the refugees to return.".
