MOSCOW, February 25. /TASS/. Getting a Russian citizenship is one of the current options, Dutch football striker Quincy Promes told a news conference on Thursday.
Dutch football club reported earlier on Wednesday that an agreement was reached with Spartak Moscow FC on the transfer of Quincy Promes, who had already arrived in the Russian capital of Moscow on February 24.
"Why not, if I had a chance," Promes told a news conference adding that he already started to feel like a Russian citizen.
Earlier in the day, Anton Fetisov, a spokesman for Russian football club Spartak Moscow, told TASS, that Promes passed a required medical examination in order to join Russian football club Spartak Moscow.
The Dutch football club, where Promes played since 2019 under a contract in force until June 30, 2024, announced in a statement on February 24 that "Ajax has reached an agreement with Spartak Moscow for the direct transfer of Quincy Promes."
The famous Dutch football club also stated that: "Promes was born in Amsterdam on January 4, 1992 and played in Ajax's youth academy since the age of ten. In 2008, he left the club and played at HFC Haarlem, Go Ahead Eagles and FC Twente, before joining Spartak Moscow for the first time in 2014."
"In Russia, he won both the Russian Premier Liga and the Russian Super Cup, claiming player of the year honors and finishing as top scorer along the way," Ajax FC press service added.
Promes, 29, scored six goals in his 18-match appearances for Ajax FC last season. The Dutch forward previously played for Spartak Moscow FC in 2014-2018, winning with the club the Russian Championship and the Super Cup of Russia.
Spartak Moscow FC finished the RPL’s previous season, which was disrupted several times by the global spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, in 7th place. Throughout its almost one century-long history, Spartak Moscow FC has been 12-time USSR champion, ten-time Russian champion as well as the winner of numerous awards and trophies.
