Kaliningrad police intercept 76 kg of cocaine hidden in banana shipment from Colombia

Investigators established that this consignment of bananas arrived in Germany from Colombia by sea, and then was transported by car to the Lithuanian city of Klaipeda

MOSCOW, April 9. /TASS/. Police in the Kaliningrad Region have seized 76 kilograms of drugs delivered to the region from Colombia in banana crates, Russian Interior Ministry Spokeswoman Irina Volk said on her Telegram channel.

"In the village of Zaozerye, Guryevsky district, employees at the logistics center discovered briquettes wrapped in polyethylene when unloading the goods, after which they reported the suspicious find to the police. During the inspection of the cargo, the police seized nine boxes, containing 76 one-kilogram briquettes with a powdery substance of white color under the top layer of fruit. According to preliminary data, they contained the narcotic drug cocaine," Volk wrote.

Investigators established that this consignment of bananas arrived in Germany from Colombia by sea, and then was transported by car to the Lithuanian city of Klaipeda. From there, it was imported to the Kaliningrad Region through the Chernyshevskoye checkpoint. After unloading the goods, the truck left for Poland.

The Investigation Department of the Russian Interior Ministry in the Kaliningrad region initiated a criminal case on the Articles 30 and 228.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (illegal production, sale or transfer of narcotic drugs). Investigative operations are being carried out.
