MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Venus will disappear behind the Moon for more than an hour on Thursday and if the weather is clear, the eclipse will be visible from the western part of Russia, the press service of the Moscow Planetarium reported.
"On Thursday, November 9, Venus will disappear behind the Moon for 1 hour 12 minutes and 32 seconds. There will be an eclipse of Venus by the Moon or, as astronomers call it, the occultation of Venus by the Moon. This will be the second occultation in 2023, the first occurred on March 24," the report states.
The phenomenon will be observable from the western part of Russia, Europe, Africa and Asia, as well as in the territories of Spitsbergen and Greenland. In Moscow, the lunar occultation of Venus will begin above the western horizon at 1:02 p.m. (10:02 GMT) and will last until 2:15 p.m. (11:15 GMT).
"You have to prepare to observe this phenomenon. You need to find the Moon and luminous Venus in advance. If the sky is clear, they will be visible to the naked eye, but you can look for them with a telescope or binoculars," the astronomers clarified. The waning Moon on the day of occultation will be in a phase close to the new moon (November 13). Venus will hide behind its brightened edge, and after the eclipse it will reappear from behind the non-brightened edge.
