Russia intends to develop military, anti-drug cooperation with Tajikistan

"Russia will further promote maintaining peace and stability in the region, including by utilizing Russia’s 201st military base stationed in the republic," President Vladimir Putin said

MOSCOW, March 17. /TASS/. To promote peace and stability in Asia, Russia will expand counterterrorism and anti-drug cooperation with Tajikistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated following his talks with Tajik leader Emomali Rahmon.

"Naturally, we could not but touch upon issues of security in Central Asia, particularly considering the challenges and threats coming from the territory of Afghanistan. Russia will further promote maintaining peace and stability in the region, including by utilizing Russia’s 201st military base stationed in the republic. We have decided to further deepen defense, military and technical, counterterrorism, and anti-drug cooperation," he noted.

The Russian president mentioned that the opening of a frontier post in a mountainous area of Tajikistan took place in late 2023. "The post is built on account of the Russian federal budget and is furnished with the latest technical equipment and weaponry. Today, we agreed to continue working together in this area," the Russian leader said.
