MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. Russia and China hold similar positions on the situations on the Korean peninsula and in the Middle East, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement following a meeting in Beijing between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu.
The two senior diplomats "considered a number of country-specific and regional issues on the international agenda, including resolving the Middle East crisis and the situation around the Korean Peninsula," the Russian diplomatic agency said. According to it, Vershinin and Miao "noted the similarity of approaches to these issues, as they reaffirmed the common principled position in favor of overcoming crises on the solid basis of international law."
Also, they discussed coordination of actions by Moscow and Beijing at the United Nations, including at the global organization’s Security Council and General Assembly. The two diplomats focused on reforming the UN, including in the context of arrangements for the Summit of the Future scheduled to take place in New York on September 22-23.
Vershinin and Miao called for intensifying efforts on the part of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter toward "forming a just and equitable multipolar world order and defending the goals and principles of the foundational treaty of the global body."
