BERLIN, March 6. /TASS/. The German economy was in recession at the end of 2023, whereas the Russian economy, despite sanctions, grew strongly, with Russian GDP exceeding German GDP in terms of purchasing power parity, Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev told TASS.
"It’s no secret that the German economy was in recession at the end of last year, but our economy was growing rapidly. Despite 13 packages of EU anti-Russian sanctions, Russia's GDP surpasses Germany's in terms of purchasing power parity," he said.
"Here they understand perfectly well that something has gone wrong, but the inertia of ‘value’ thinking and the mutual responsibility of the West do not allow the German government to admit the failure of the sanctions policy, which contradicts the country’s national interests," Nechaev believes.
According to him, the same is true for "the practice of pumping Ukraine up with weapons and military equipment." "Billions of euros allocated for these purposes from Germany’s state budget have to be withdrawn from the social sphere, from subsidies to industry workers," the ambassador added. At the same time, he stated that "German citizens can give an assessment of what is happening." "We do not interfere in these processes and consider them to be Germany’s internal affairs," Nechaev stressed.
