An-30 plane with 5 onboard missing in Yakutia

The plane disappeared from the radars and its emergency beacon was not functioning, the regional Emergencies Ministry specified

YAKUTSK, June 22. /TASS/. An An-30 aircraft carrying five people and 6.3 tonnes of cargo has vanished from radars in the Siberian region of Yakutia, the regional Emergencies Ministry said on Wednesday.

"On June 22, the operating shift on duty of the crisis management center of the Emergencies Ministry’s Main Directorate for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) received information that an An-30 aircraft had not landed at an appointed time at the airport of the Olenek populated locality," the statement said. According to preliminary data, the plane carried the crew of five people and 6.3 tonnes of cargo (food products).

The Emergencies Ministry added that the plane disappeared from the radars and its emergency beacon was not functioning.

A TASS source in the emergency services previously reported that there were seven people aboard the missing flight that originated in Yakutsk, a Mi-8 helicopter and an An-26 plane were engaged in a search.

The Oleneksky district is located in north-western Yakutia, beyond the Polar Circle with the population of over 4,000 people.
