Lifting of sanctions against Russia only matter of time, Siluanov says

Russian Finance Minister added that western countries use reserve currencies as a political tool

SAO PAULO, February 27. /TASS/. The lifting of sanctions imposed against Russia is a matter of time, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told Bloomberg Saudi Arabia TV in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

"The financiers who are meeting today (finance ministers of the G20 and BRICS - TASS) must work out and find a solution by agreement in terms of economic issues. I mean sanctions and restrictions. They will still be lifted, it’s a matter of time," Siluanov said.

Western countries use reserve currencies as a political tool, Siluanov added. "Today, we will review a number of Russia’s initiatives, as Russia is the BRICS chairman this year. We will propose investigating the operation of the international monetary and financial system. We see numerous issues. We can see that the monetary and financial systems are politicized. Reserve currencies are being used as a political tool rather than to support trade turnover," he said.

According to him, the activities of international financial institutions such as the IMF and the World Bank are also politicized. "We see that settlement organizations, clearing systems such as Euroclear, Clearstream, also work with political overtones," the minister noted. This, as the minister noted, affects the overall situation with the global economy.
