Russia strengthening trade ties with APEC economies — Deputy PM Overchuk

Russia’s line is to strengthen trade ties with APEC economies, it is interested in predictability of conditions of international trade and investment, the WTO’s efficient activities, Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said

SAN FRANCISCO /California/, November 18. /TASS/. Russia is strengthening trade ties with APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) economies, and it is interested in predictability in global trade and efficient activities of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk who heads the country’s delegation at the summit that is about to end in San Francisco (California), said.

"Russia’s line is to strengthen trade ties with APEC economies, it is interested in predictability of conditions of international trade and investment, the WTO’s efficient activities," he told reporters, adding that Moscow also focuses on creating conditions for functioning of international supply chains.

Russia’s delegation presented its proposals and developments on North-South and East-West transport corridors at the summit, Overchuk said.

"We took part in all discussions. We laid out views on the agenda. We stressed the importance of maintained uninterrupted supply chains. We also presented our initiatives in the areas of interdependence, investment and development of railway infrastructure in Russia’s eastern part that will be able to support the flow of goods from the countries of the Indo-Pacific region to the West, to APEC economic leaders. This is the most efficient itinerary, and we are upgrading and improving it," he said.

Moreover, the Russian delegation announced the project on construction of the North-South corridor linking the Baltic Sea and the Persian Gulf to participants of APEC meetings in San Francisco, the official added.
