According to Hainan Daily, the decision was made in mid-August after COVID-19 outbreak was reported on the island

HAIKOU /China/, August 22. /TASS/. The Health Insurance Administration of South China's Hainan Province has temporarily included the country's oral anti-Covid drug Azvudine into the list of medicine covered by medical insurance. This was reported by the Hainan Daily newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the decision was made in mid-August, after an outbreak of COVID-19 was detected on the island. The authorities also ordered local health facilities to ensure timely supplies of the drug.

In early August, a major outbreak of coronavirus began in Hainan. To suppress it, a number of regions in China have sent more than 10,000 medics to the island. Earlier, authorities reported that after three weeks of maximally reinforced anticoviral measures, the epidemic services were able to bring the situation under control and achieve "a clear breakthrough" in the fight against the pandemic.
