Singapore company and British hospital set up liver disease center on Hainan

HAIKOU, April 10. /TASS/. AsiaMedic, a Singapore-based pharmaceutical company, and King's College Hospital (London) have agreed to establish a liver disease center on Hainan, reported the Hainan Daily.

According to the newspaper, the specialized institution will be located on the territory of the Lecheng international medical tourism zone in the eastern part of the island. The project is expected to enhance the status of Hainan's healthcare system and allow the province to gain access to promising innovations.

"We are creating an open platform to accelerate the adoption of technologies and drug adaptation that will be required to provide better services to patients," said Gu Gang, head of the medical cluster and also the secretary of the local party committee.

As he clarified, the Hainan administration seeks to attract patients from other countries, primarily from the countries of Southeast Asia. "The fact that foreign organizations are building such facilities in our zone is a testament to their confidence in Hainan's free trade port program, which has gained more recognition," Gu Gang explained.

In 2013, the Hainan administration announced the creation of a pilot international medical tourism zone "Lecheng" in the small town of Boao, where on the territory of 20 square kilometers one can find sanatoriums, clinics of traditional and Western medicine. To provide services that meet advanced standards, the project organizers constantly draw highly qualified specialists from other regions of China and other countries, maintaining close contacts with leading foreign medical institutions. By 2025, the Chinese authorities plan to bring Lecheng to the world level in terms of equipment and medical technology. A modern clinical complex and development of a research base will be established there.
