Russia says concerned over Kiev’s bill granting sweeping power to police

"It seems that the Kiev regime is planning a scenario worse than the sniper shootings during the Maidan," Maria Zakharova concluded

MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. The Kiev regime is preparing for a forceful retention of power in a scenario that would be worse than the shooting of people by snipers on the Maidan square, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"The illegitimate Ukrainian leadership is preparing to forcefully retain power. This explains the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement’s March 21 approval of draft law No.10311, which allows the National Guard of Ukraine to use firearms, tear gas and drones against civilians during so-called, as they called it, mass riots," she said.

"It seems that the Kiev regime is planning a scenario worse than the sniper shootings during the Maidan. I would like to emphasize again that this applies to their own citizens," the diplomat concluded.

On March 21, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement approved the bill. The Anti-Corruption Action Center (CPC), commenting on the draft, noted that it gives the authorities unlimited power to use firearms, tear gas, tasers, rubber batons, drones, permits marking people with paint and the use of other means of influence against the civilian population during protests. The amendments proposed in the draft law may lead to violation of the fundamental rights and freedoms of people, the CPC concluded.
