NEW DELHI, October 22. /TASS/. The current conflict in Ukraine can only be resolved at the negotiating table and the US is ready for a mediation role, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview with the India Today TV channel.
"It’s a very difficult conflict to end," he said, noting that US President Donald Trump is paying a great deal of attention to it. "We have people who do nothing all day but trying to find a way to make a difference and to bridge those differences or ways to overcome the existing disagreements."
"It’s been difficult, but I can tell you this: hard as it is, it is impossible to do unless both sides are at the table talking and we are happy to play the mediating role in that regard. That’s what we are trying to do. I am not claiming that getting them in the same room is going to solve the problem, but we have no chance to solve it, if we can’t get them in a room," Rubio said.
"The question is whether there is some accommodation where both sides will have to make some concessions in order to bring an end to the war. This war is not going to be solved militarily, this war is only going to end diplomatically. The question is: can you arrive at an outcome, in which both sides receive something, a benefit, but also give concessions and bring this to an end," the secretary of state declared.
Earlier, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia highly values the US mediation efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
