Trump says he would like to run for third term, but US laws very strict

According to the US president, "everybody wants" him to do so

WASHINGTON, August 12. /TASS/. US leader Donald Trump has stated that he would like to run for a third term as US president, but the country's laws on this matter are very strict.

"I'd love to run, but the law is very strong," he said on Tuesday, answering questions from journalists at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington. In his opinion, "everybody wants" him to do so.

By law, Trump's second term as president is set to end in January 2029. The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution, which was adopted in 1951, limits a president's tenure to two terms. Nevertheless, the current US leader has repeatedly indicated the possibility of seeking re-election for a third term.

Trump won the election for the second time in November 2024. He defeated Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris. He previously headed the US administration from 2017 to 2021.
