TEHRAN, May 4. /TASS/. The joint military aggression by Israel and the US against Iran has caused a rift among Washington’s European allies, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated.
"The US’ rash and illegal actions in attacking Iran have had far-reaching consequences, including divisions and disagreements among countries that were previously considered US allies. I think American officials were outraged that German officials acknowledged that US involvement in a war with Iran would impose enormous costs on Europe and that these actions were taken without justification," the diplomat told reporters.
Baghaei emphasized that the time has come for Europe to pursue its own independent foreign policy, especially regarding Iran, without relying on the US.
On April 29, US President Donald Trump emphasized that Washington is considering reducing its military presence in Germany and will soon make a decision on the matter. On April 30, responding to reporters’ questions, the US leader suggested that Washington might reduce its troop numbers in not only Germany but also Italy and Spain.
Trump did not specify why his administration might take such a step. However, the statement came after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz criticized Washington’s military campaign against Tehran, pointing to the lack of a clear US strategy. On April 28, Trump accused Merz of considering it acceptable for Iran to possess nuclear weapons. —0—zay
