Taliban says appreciates possible suspension of Russian ban

On March 31, Russia’s Supreme Court stated that the Prosecutor General had requested suspension of the ban

TUNIS, April 1. /TASS/. The Taliban movement (banned in Russia) considers Russia’s legal procedures to lift a ban on this Afghan organization as an important step, official representative of the Talib government Zabihullah Mujahid told TASS.

"We believe that all actions in this area aimed at cementing relations between Afghanistan and Russia are a good step. These measures will help strengthen relations between the two countries and the two peoples and are regarded as a very valuable step," he said.

On March 31, Russia’s Supreme Court stated that the Prosecutor General had requested suspension of the ban.

At the end of last December, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that provides for lifting a ban on organizations from the unified list of terrorist organizations. These provisions, head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky explained, will allow official interaction with the ruling Taliban movement in Afghanistan.
