BANGKOK, March 28. /TASS/. The death toll from the earthquake in Bangkok has increased to eight people, with more than 110 missing, said Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
"Eight dead bodies have been recovered from the rubble of a collapsed building," Khaosod newspaper quoted him as saying. The Interior Minister said the search and rescue operation would continue overnight. According to him, one survivor was recovered from the debris.
The Meteorological Department of Thailand previously said that a magnitude 7.7 earthquake occurred in several districts of Bangkok and its surroundings, resulting in the collapse of the Auditor General's Office building that was under construction. The agency recorded that an 8.2 magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers at 1:20 p.m. (9:20 a.m. Moscow time) with an epicenter near the city of Mandalay in Myanmar.
