TOKYO, November 11. /TASS/. Indonesia’s accession to BRICS will help Indonesia reach new heights as a country, the Antara news agency said in its article.
According to the news agency, BRICS membership will open up new economic opportunities for Indonesia and reinforce its sovereignty and independence. By making strategic use of these opportunities, Indonesia will be able to become a more sustainable country amid global shocks.
BRICS should serve as a "an impetus to strengthen the spirit of economic nationalism" for Jakarta, the article says. However, "this does not mean isolation from the outer world, but rather implies a greater openness for cooperation, which will contribute to national progress and increased public welfare."
"By joining BRICS, Indonesia will get a chance to fight for its national interests, to affect global politics and improve economic diplomacy," Antara believes.
In addition, Jakarta’s cooperation with BRICS countries will help grow domestic production volume and introduce more efficient agricultural technologies. It will allow Indonesia to increase the productivity of its agricultural sector and ensure its food self-sufficiency, while simultaneously increasing its export potential, the agency said.
In October, 2023, Joko Widodo, then-President of Indonesia, said that the country was waiting for the right moment to join the BRICS and might join the association in 2024 or 2025, but it does not want to rush anything.
On October 25, the Foreign Ministry of Indonesia said that Indonesian representatives stated the country's intent to join the association during the BRICS Plus/Outreach meeting in Kazan. On October 29, the new President, Prabowo Subianto, also said that Indonesia must join the BRICS.
