TEL AVIV, November 8. /TASS/. Palestinian supporters attacked Israeli citizens who came to Amsterdam to support the Tel Aviv soccer club, The Times of Israel reported, citing the Foreign Ministry.
According to it, the severity of the injuries suffered by the Israelis is still unclear, as they are currently out of contact. The ministry advised to Israeli citizens in Amsterdam not to leave their hotels.
Israel's National Security Council on Friday also urged Israelis visiting Amsterdam to take shelter in their hotels after violent attacks began late Thursday night against Tel Aviv’s Maccabi soccer fans at the end of a match against Dutch club Ajax. The National Security Council said Israelis who can should return to Israel immediately. The country has increased flights to bring its citizens home.
Israeli fans were attacked after a soccer match between local club Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Amsterdam in the Europa League, Israel's permanent representative to the United Nations Danny Danon said on his social media page X.
"We are receiving very disturbing reports of extreme violence against Israelis and Jews on the streets of Holland. There is a pogrom currently taking place in Europe in 2024. These are the true faces of the supporters of the radical terrorism we are fighting. The Western world needs to wake up now! This is the time when the UN should immediately and clearly condemn the violence of the Palestinians and their supporters. The Dutch authorities must take decisive action against terrorism now," the diplomat said, posting a video of the attack by people wearing Palestinian state symbols.
Israel’s Ynet news outlet reported that the incident took place near the exit of the stadium building. At least five fans were stabbed, and some were hit by a passing car, it added.
